Michael Rzanny
Discovering plant diversity with "Flora Incognita"
Max Planck Institute for Biogeochemistry, Jena
Dr. Michael Rzanny is a biologist at the MPI for Biogeochemistry in Jena and is one of the botanists behind the Flora Incognita project. In addition to the automatic identification of plants, another important goal of the project is to make people aware of the plant diversity in their environment. With the Flora Incognita app, which was developed together with the TU Ilmenau, everyone can broaden their own botanical horizons and at the same time contribute data on the spatial and temporal distribution of plant species as a Citizen Scientist. Michael has been involved in the project since it began in 2014 and is responsible, among other things, for conducting experiments and evaluating and monitoring the observation data.
