Prof. Dr. Tobias Bonhoeffer is Director at the Max Planck Institute of Neurobiology and professor at Ludwigs-Maximilans-Universität München. He was born on January 9, 1960 in Berkeley, California/USA. Study of physics, doctorate Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics (1988), Rockefeller University New York (1989-1990), Max Planck Institute for Brain Research (1991-1993), Max Planck Institute of Psychiatry (1993-1998), Director and Scientific Member at the Max Planck Institute of Neurobiology (since 1998). Since 2010, Tobias Bonhoeffer is member of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina.

Until 2020, Tobias Bonhoeffer was Chair of the Scientific Council of the Max Planck Society and, in this capacity, addressed the aspect of sustainability in science and strongly promoted the actions of the Max Planck Directors in this direction. In January 2020, he was also appointed Chair of the Max Planck Society's Presidential Commission on Climate Protection.
