We take care of our carbon footprint, we avoid plastics and we ride our bikes to work. But what about our research work in the lab? According to a study from 2014, about 5.5 million tons of plastic waste has been produced in the life sciences labs worldwide. This roughly combines the tonnage of 67 cruise liners. Lab buildings consume 3-5 times more energy and water than normal office buildings and freezer or fume hoods need on average as much energy as a single-family household. So what possibilities are there for reducing resource consumption without compromising your research results?
In this workshop, you’ll get an overview of the sustainability topics in the lab, best practice examples as well as a discussion and mutual exchange on your experiences and ideas on this topic
