There is a social consensus that climate change is one of the greatest challenges of our time. However, much less attention is paid to the extinction of species caused by humans. Yet the loss of biodiversity threatens life on earth just as much as the climate crisis. The Max Planck Society researches biodiversity at its institutes, but also wants to go beyond its research mandate to protect biodiversity. More than a third of the MPIs have already implemented measures to protect species on their institute premises. These examples show how we can create ponds, plant trees or transform lawns into flowering meadows around our institutes.
